eGovernment in Mexico

Last week, Mexico proposed a law mandating the use of open source software in government. For now, the law is focused on agencies located in the federal district around Mexico City. If passed, the law could take affect as early as this year. The stated goals of the proposal are to reduce software costs, create jobs, and support the development of a national software industry. Mexico has greatly improved its web presence in recent years with the creation of several new portal sites such as eMexico. eGobierno, etc.
